Tonkawa Falls is one of the most beautiful places in central Texas. Tonk, as it is known by the locals, is located just off Highway 185 in Crawford, Texas. This scenic location has always been extremely popular with portrait and landscape photographers. During the summer months, the pool just below the falls has long been a very popular swimming hole. On any given summer day the place would be teaming with families enjoying the cool waters, as kids would jump off the fifteen foot rock cliffs or slide down the slippery waterfall. There are now “No Swimming” signs all around the area, posted by the City of Crawford which owns this park. I am assuming for liability reasons, but I am not sure. There is no fee to enjoy this wonderful
place, unless you want to stay in the RV park that’s on site. For me this has been my favorite spot to photograph family and friends over the past 20 plus years. The rocky cliffs and waterfall makes for a some gorgeous photo backdrops or landscape images. Like I said earlier, this has to be one of, if not the most beautiful and scenic locals in central Texas. So if you are an RV’er, a photog, or just someone that likes to take in the beauty that Texas has to offer, Tonkawa Falls is a great destination.
